The Vision of Hope

is to present Christ and provide a "Haven of Hope" to those bound by sin. Through the taught Word of God, the needs of the total man are met, whereby every member becomes perfected for every good work of God!

Elder Portia R. Sewell

Portia Sewell is a native of Palmetto, Georgia and is a product of the Fulton County School System.  It was during her early years she was introduced to the Lord and became saved at the age of twelve, while attending J.S. Hammond Baptist Church located in Palmetto, Georgia.  It was clear that God had a divine purpose for her life and her ministry while serving under the leadership of Pastor Willie R. Starks at the J.S. Hammond Missionary Baptist Church.

She attended Palmetto High School where she excelled academically and is a 1986 graduate.  In 1987, she continued her academic pursuits and graduated from Atlanta Area Technical School with certifications in Dental Procedures and Technical Assistance in Dental Radiology.  Over the past eighteen years, she has served in many capacities including Office Manager and Dental Assistant for several major Dental Practices in the metro Atlanta area.  She is the recipient of the 2001 Women of Great Faith Award presented by the Greater Atlanta Club of the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Club, Inc.

Lady Sewell is currently employed with the Fulton County Board of Education serving as Parent Liaison-Volunteer & Business Coordinator for Palmetto Elementary School.  Portia Sewell was named the 2005 Employee of the Year and was also recognized for being a key asset at Palmetto Elementary and the Partners in Education in receiving two prestigious Awards within the Fulton County School System:  The Golden Apple Award and The Blue Ribbon Award.

Portia is married to Antonio R. Sewell, Pastor of New Hope Baptist Church in Griffin, Georgia.  They have two daughters through this beautiful union, Alexis and Ashlyn.

She has always served in the church in some capacity from choir director to youth coordinator.  From her early years, her passion has been to win souls for the cause of Christ.  There is a strong concern particularly for the plight of women in the absence of a spiritual foundation.  At New Hope Baptist Church, she began the D.O.V.E. ministry (Daughters of Virtue and Excellence).  This ministry strives to motivate women to live Godly lives so that their testimony speaks for itself.  Sister Portia Sewell endeavors to teach women to apply biblical principles for practical living and encourage each one through the taught word of God to reach their fullest potential.  God has continued to open many doors and allow Sister Sewell to minister His word in conferences and in worship settings.

On Sunday, January 28, 2007, she was licensed as a Minister of the Gospel.  She is an anointed speaker, teacher, psalmist, and encourager.  She is, what the daughters of New Hope Baptist Church strives to become, the epitome of the Proverbs 31 woman.
